Purpose of the work. The article is devoted to the study of the formation, composition and fate of the archival heritage of the library of the Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko National Museum of Arts in the chronological framework of 1928–1933. This period was marked by cardinal changes in Soviet museum policy, ideological pressure and reorganization of cultural institutions of that time. Methods are based on a purposeful scientific process of studying archival sources, contemporary office work and inventory books, the processes of completing the book collection, accounting for rare editions and the specifics of the functioning of the library as a scientific center are highlighted. The result of the study lies in the introduction to scientific circulation of previously unknown archival materials. In file № 39 at the Scientific Archive of the Khanenko National Museum of Arts, the correspondence of the museum’s library for the period 1928–1933 with various scientific institutions is stored. Documents relating to the archival heritage of the library of the Museum of Arts can be conditionally divided into three groups. The first is a group concerning the international cooperation of the museum library and the exchange of publications with other scientific institutions. The second group encompasses official correspondence regarding the purchase of books in the 1920s–1930s and covers business and financial reporting. The third group concerns the official correspondence of the library of the Museum of Arts, and also contains reports by prominent librarians and bibliographers. Conclusions. The archival heritage of the library of the Museum of Arts for 1928–1933 records the composition of acquisitions and the initial classification of books on the history of art, antique publications and periodicals. Therefore, the digitization and full publication of the preserved inventory books and catalogs will allow us to virtually recreate the original book fund of the library.
